Summer Orientation Counselor Garrett Fenley helps a future Ichabod register for Fall classes at Friday’s New Student Orientation.
Just one of the many reasons that our SOCs are great - look at those smiles! Garrett, like every single SOC this year and every year, looks forward to getting to know incoming students and helping them any way he can.
If you haven’t registered for an NSO yet, now’s the time! You get hands on, personal, face-to-face experience and conversation with SOCs, staff, and faculty who will help you through enrolling in your first semester and making the transition to college. It’s an important step to becoming an Ichabod, and we definitely don’t want you to miss out!
If you’ve attended an NSO this summer, tell us how it went! What was your favorite part of the day? Did you find anything particularly useful or helpful? We love to hearing student (and parent/guest!) experiences - it helps us make the NSO program even better!

#WNSO13 - This week!

Tomorrow’s NSO is full, but registration is STILL OPEN for Thursday, June 13. You know you want to get in on what’s happening!

Here’s some important things to keep in mind for NSOs this week!

• Bring your photo identification! You’ll need it to get your iCard.
• Bring your game face! This day will be full of lots of information, much of it pretty new to a lot of you. We don’t want you to miss anything important!
• If you want to meet your classmates on Twitter, keep up with the #WUNSO13 hashtag. Drop in, say hi, and get to know everyone. We believe that making connections early is one of the best ways to make your college career a great one. Bonus? Your tweet could be featured on the big screens during lunch!
• Do you prefer Facebook? We’ve got a group for that! It’s private, just for you all, so ask your Admissions Counselor about getting access. (But while we’re at it, make sure you like the University on Facebook! It makes us super happy!)
• Feel free to take photos! Who doesn’t love Instagram? Again, use the hashtag #WUNSO13 and tell us what your favorite part of the day is!
• Check the FAQ page on the Orientation website. If you’ve got questions, it’s likely that others have had ‘em, too, so make sure you catch up!
• HAVE FUN! This day is for you, and we want to make sure it’s a great one!
• Practice your #BODWALK! Don’t be surprised if people with cameras come along and ask you to strike a pose!

See you bright and early at 8 am tomorrow, Future Ichabods!

New Student Orientation

It’s only the first day of Spring, but New Student Orientation is fast approaching! For newly admitted students, this is an exciting time - you’re preparing to enter the college world and be an adult and show the world what you’re made of.

And we want to make sure you have some help along the way.

NSO is vital for students who are new to the Ichabod life. New Student Orientation has been designed to assist you in developing an understanding about the transition you will make to college and to enable your success at Washburn.

So what happens at NSO?

You get to meet fellow classmates and faculty, learn about financial aid and money issues, take tours of campus and facilities, have a free lunch, and hang out with some of our coolest Bods - the SOCs. You’ll even get to register for your first semester of classes!

NSOs happen all summer long - so you have plenty of opportunities to come to campus, get yourself acquainted with us, and then continue with the rest of your summer worry free. Your financial aid package has been secured, your seats in your required classes are locked in, and you have a much better sense of what’s going to happen starting in the Fall semester. Sounds like a good time to kick back in a lounge chair by the pool to us!

The important thing is that you get registered for NSO. It’s super easy - all you have to do is pick a date and fill out the form at this link and we’ll be in touch. If you need more information or have more questions, definitely reach out to us, or check out the NSO FAQ page! Our Admissions Office is more than happy to help! Shoot us an email at orientation@washburn.edu.

Are you a Transfer student? We’re SUPER excited that you’re joining us this Fall! You’re welcome to attend the Orientation that works best for your schedule, but please note that the April 8th NSO is designed specifically for Transfer students and will address any of the special needs that come with transferring from another institution.

Are you an incoming Freshman? You’ve made a FABULOUS choice when you decided to become an Ichabod! NSO dates for incoming Freshmen are listed on the website where you can register.

Best of all, in our opinion? All of us here at Washburn have an opportunity to meet all of YOU, our future Ichabods. You are what make this campus great and we are so proud that you have decided to become an Ichabod!
